The

Brunei has so many fantastic places to take the kiddies for a day out and a nice year round sunshine (though often a little too hot and humid, especially around mid-day). Need ideas to get your kids outdoors? Look no further. We have compiled a list of children friendly outdoor activities in Brunei. Just remember to bring your hat, sunblock and lots of water. You can jump to the different categories using the links on the right.

Parks

Sungai Kedayan Eco-Corridor

The newest park on our list, the Sungai Kedayan Eco-Corridor is a 12 hectare waterfront park that is wedged between Kampong Ayer and the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifussin Mosque. With beautiful manicured lawns, a couple of small playgrounds (mostly small see saws and the like) and exotic plants, this is an excellent choice for a couple of hours outdoors. Do note though that there isn’t much shade so do avoid this during the hottest hours of the day.

Jubilee Park

Medium sized park with a playground area. There are often events here over the weekend and a nice crowd of children and joggers. There isn’t much shade though so avoid during the hottest hours of the day.

Agro Technology Park

Large park with neat gardens and walking paths. There are enclosures with deers and ostriches which might be interesting for the little ones and an indoor greenhouse where you can purchase various plants (and cool off). Very little shade other than the indoor greenhouse so avoid during the hottest hours of the day.

Tasek Lama Recreational Park

Beautiful spot for walks/hikes in the centre of town with some small playground areas. The main walk itself is very easy for kids and passes a nice waterfall (you can’t swim here though). There are slightly harder walks/hikes for adults and older children. There is a rather steep walk that will take you to a small observation deck for great views of the town. Lots of vendors outside selling drinks, snacks and fresh coconuts but beware the monkeys (do not bring food into the park itself).

Damuan Park

Medium sized park near the Istana Nurul Iman and along the Brunei river. There are a few nice playground areas and some old tractors and other equipment on display.

Taman Rekreasi Menteri Besar

Nice medium sized park with lots of trees and pagodas on sunny days. There are also little hills and some lakes. A great day out for the kids and a popular jogging location.

Beaches

Pantai Tarindak

Small and clean beach by the Polo Club. There is a cafe/restaurant by the beach where you can grab a bite while watching the sunset over the water. There is an elephant enclosure by the beach but the elephant is only outdoors in the early mornings. The beach is also where the horses are taken for a walk. Beware of monkeys though.

Pantai Tungku

Large beach that is a popular spot amongst surfers and bodyboarders. Nice spot to watch the sunset or have a picnic/barbeque (but please please don’t leave trash behind like many others do). During low tide you can walk to a small erosion barrier area but this is not suitable for children.

Miscellaneous

Jerudong Park Playground and Water Park

One of my favourites on this whole list! $15 (adult resident price) gets you access to many different rides (e.g. bumper cars, rollercoasters. Ferris wheel, giant drop and many more), mini golf, a water park, an adventure area (rock climbing wall, flying fox, etc), go karts, etc. If you want to just enter and play at the many playgrounds it will cost just $2. An amazing day out for small and big kids. Only thing I would suggest is to bring tissue paper and soap/hand sanitizer for the toilets as these are lacking. Kampung Ayer

A Kampong Ayer tour gives kids a chance to not only see how others live and experience some of the oldest residences in Brunei, it also gives them to spot some local animals in their natural habitat - all without having to work up a sweat or be eaten alive by mosquitoes. Crocodiles, fish, local birds, monitor lizards and, for those who are lucky, proboscis monkeys. Either take a formal (and more expensive) organised tour or grab a water taxi in Bandar (outside Yayasan) and haggle for the best price. I prefer the water taxi route but do note that life jackets aren’t provided for this option (we would bring some for kids if you have them).
